A towering landmark of the English choral tradition, The Dream of Gerontius is a work of searing emotional power, intimate one moment and overwhelming the next. Featured recently in the film, The Choral, Elgar’s great meditation on faith, fear and transcendence remains one of the most gripping experiences in the repertoire.
Cole Bendall conducts the massed forces of Woking and Reigate & Redhill Choral Societies, The Octavian Singers and The Chantry Singers, alongside the London Mozart Players and a trio of international-calibre soloists.
There will be a pre-concert talk at 6.30 by Cole Bendall, the Conductor for the concert who will examine how Cardinal Newman’s words and Elgar’s music are woven together into this masterpiece of choral music. Entry is free to ticket holders for the concert on a first come basis.
