Farewell to Stromness
Guitar Concerto in D Major
The Day Dawn
Concerto in D minor
Schiehallion!
Baroque with a twist, with new arrangements for guitar alongside Celtic-inspired music.
Bach was the ultimate 18th-century businessman. In high demand during the 1730s and 1740s, he was under pressure to produce a steady stream of works, which pushed him to adapt and innovate. His Concerto in D minor is a perfect example: believed to be a transcription of a long-lost violin concerto, Bach transformed it for harpsichord (an instrument that was quickly growing in popularity) while preserving the spirit of the original. In the same spirit of adaptation, we’re presenting a new arrangement of this concerto for guitar.
GRAMMY-nominated guitarist Sean Shibe joins us for a programme that journeys from Baroque masterpieces reimagined for guitar to Celtic-inspired contemporary music, capturing the captivating, folk-like beauty of traditional Scottish melodies.
Priority booking period for Friends of LMP opens on 1 May. General bookings open on 12 May.
