Access to arts and culture can provide all these things, and yet so many children and young people simply don’t have the chance.
We believe that all young people should be given the opportunity to access the arts, which is why over the next 12 months we are committed to reaching at least 100,000 children and young people through our community and education work.
Through this work, we want to support young people to overcome the practical and perceived barriers that prevent them from engaging with the arts. From financial challenges in receiving music education at home or in school, or perceptions around the “type” of person that the arts are for, we believe that all children and young people should be given the opportunity for artistic exploration that reflects who they are and we want to help them do this. To achieve this target, we have created a programme of activities which focus on the following three areas:
Music education in schools
Building on our work locally in Croydon, we have created an extensive programme of educational content that complements and enhances the national curriculum.
Music at home
Music plays a key role in early years development. We want to give more children and families the opportunity to access educational (and entertaining) musical content that will inspire children to learn and explore their own creativity.
Early careers support
Providing platforms for young, emerging artists has always been part of our work but has become increasingly important as the pandemic has made it harder for young musicians who are embarking on a new career. We also recognise that not everyone working in the creative arts will want to be centre stage, but need clearer career pathways into a wide range of roles in the creative industries.
